This is
a HB unit I am rebuilding to modern standards - step start,
etc. The new package will have a shielded front window to see
the glow. This is a Class AB2 Linear and requires very little
drive for several 1000 watts key down. The original design was
by Joe Patterson SK (original call W5EHM). What a wonderful
engineer. He designed and built this Amp and many more. See
the front of CQ March 1947 below. I bought the amp from my buddy
Brain Tatum.

Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well. The SK was Joe Patterson,
W5VY.
He had a long career in radio working for the military. He told
me about equipping large aircraft with monitoring equipment
to fly along the USSR border, about installing microwave stations
near USSR border to receive signals by knife-edge refraction,
and that he worked in over 100 countries during his career.
Pat was on the front cover of a 1960's {I believe) era CQ or
73 mag. showing his high power mobile setup in trunk of car.
